DIFFERENT STROKES DIFF FOLKS

DIFFERENT STROKES DIFF FOLKS [iii]

i.tanka [Jerusalemites visiting California son are puzzled no restaurants open]

in heart of Israel
itโ€™s a regular Thursday —
just very normal
โ€”week post Hanukkah โ€” many
us Jews unaware Xmas

ii.tanka [Orthodox in-laws of course arranged their boyโ€™s boychick bris*]

diaspora kidsโ€”
unlike Israel where all do
boysโ€™ circumcision*
variations of kosher/
Shabbat โ€” oy none my sonโ€™s child

iii.tanka [if only]

I grieve as Jew for
humans desecrated by
Hamas; can Israel
take responsibility
for Gaza response mistakes?
