Class Reunion in Sepia

Written by Chris Cochran

The glowing amber lights of the tow truck rotate, mocking the rusted sedan whose alternator is completely idle. Dahlia Wood (Most Likely to Rely on Others) remains seated until she sees Levi Silva (Most Likely to Never Leave Town) climb backward down the truck’s steps.

She exits, greets him by first name. He squints, smiles in recognition. They meet beneath a small-town autumn sky.

“Headin’ to the reunion?” he asks.

Dahlia takes in her surroundings. “I think this is it.”

“Just as well,” he says. “How much does anyone change in ten years, anyway?”
